Temple History

The Maa Annapurna Temple, located in Khardaha, West Bengal, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Annapurna, the divine provider of food and nourishment. This sacred site holds immense religious and historical significance, attracting devotees who seek prosperity, abundance, and spiritual blessings. Annapurna Temple was built on 12 April 1875, by Jagadamba Devi, youngest daughter of Rani Rashmoni. She was married to Mathur Mohan Biswas, who after the death of his first wife Karunamoyee, married Jagadamba Devi. Their son Dwarikanath Biswas made all the arrangements for the establishment of this temple.[5] The temple was opened to devotees by Ramakrishna.[6] Inside the temple complex there is a Natmandir, six Shiva temples and two Nahabatkhanas. The 'Navaratna' temple of Annapurna in Talpukur near Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas is particularly noteworthy. Talpukur was previously known as Chanak. The temple was founded by Jagadamba Devi, the younger daughter of Rani Rashmoni. Rani Rashmoni's son-in-law Mathur Biswas married Jagadamba Devi after the death of his first wife Karunamayi (daughter of Rani Rashmoni). Thakur Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Dev inaugurated this temple on 12 April 1875 (30th Chaitra, 1281 Bengali). This temple of Annapurna is very similar to the 'Navaratna' temple of Bhavatarini in Dakshineswar. Both the temples were built on the plan of the same architect.
